James Hetfield - Progress

Working on an A3 coloured pencil drawing of another one of my favourite bands - Metallica.

Kicked off with James Hetfield from the "Until it Sleeps" video. Such a fantastic song. Can't wait to draw Kirk, Jason and Lars either. The boys look so great in that video.


This took me 2 days to draw. On the left I put all the coloured pencils I've used so far:

• 4 green tones for the hair

• 4 blue tones for the clothing

• 4 bright tones for the skintones

• 4 light tones for blending

• 4 B/W tones for background

On the bottom a few more attributes:

• black eraser to erase graphite outlines

• cotton pad for blending the background

• Q-tips for blending little corners

And my hand, obviously.



Not sure how many of you are familiar with Metallica, but people... are they the best band on earth or what?!


I've been a fan of theirs for over 10 years and was known for my knowledge about anything band related subjects. In fact, people of the official Dutch Metallica website once asked me to be a part of their group and write articles. Of course I said yes. Unfortunately I never heard from them again, once they figured out I was only 13 years old.

In 2003 I won a Meet & Greet contest being held by MTV. A few days later MTV called me for my personal info. In the end, I got 2nd price -a double album- because I was 15 years old, and therefore too young to win the 1st prize. D:
