Tutorial: Editing Drawings by Cataclysm-X Tutorial: Editing Drawings by Cataclysm-X
Yes, I made a new tutorial! This time it's about how scanners work and how I edit drawings in Photoshop.

I know I said I wouldn't make any more tutorials, but I got soooooooooo many questions about this, and it's something I won't be putting in my artbook anyway, so I've been working on this all day long.

And now I'm tired...

Oh well, hope it's useful :)

Ah, so you DO use photoshop to make it even more realistic! I honestly thought it was the pure sketch... which is sad, because I darken my own drawings as well...

You are freaking AMAZING.

I added your Holmes and Watson picture, and started looking at the rest of your stuff.... AMAZINGAMAZINGAMAZING!!!

Would you critique my work?

doodlescrabble Featured By Owner Apr 26, 2011   Writer
Have you tried to click on the image itself? It'll get bigger automatically. At least, it works in my laptop...

(i've seen this a while ago, but for some reason it didnt fav DX)
but i was wondering...
how do you get your works to scan in so nicely?
whenever i scan in any pencil works, pencil lines are lost, and the quality turns out real badly T3T

Scanners are my greatest enemies... :ninja:
I really need to download Photoshop, because my drawings still suck when I post them online. Bah.
Btw, what's up with your art book? Is it finished yet? (You probably wrote a journal or something about it already, but sadly I missed it)

Thank you so much for this tutorial, I didn't know I could make my drawings look a lot better with editing.
ramikin Featured By Owner Feb 6, 2010  Student General Artist
I all thouse fundies are being a bit rude by saying that you're cheating by editing your drawings in photoshop, because that isn't the case at all!!! I hate my scanner to bits because it fades reds and refuses to scan fluro colours, it also washes out any greylead pencil drawings I try to attempt. By editing you are restoring your pictures to their real life glory, and to say that repairing a washed out and genrally inferiour scan of a picture in photoshop is cheating would also be saying that the people who touch up the mona lisa after its hundreds of years of existance are vandals and cheaters too.

This tutorial is extremely helpful, and your work is amazing. :huggle:
tansoman Featured By Owner Feb 2, 2010  Student Digital Artist
thats kind of cheat zD
SpecialFlavour Featured By Owner Jan 29, 2010  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
editing drawings with photoshop kills the drawing , when you use dodge and burn and brush to fix the lighting you are making it better but you should fix that with your pencil

i think it's enough to use photoshop to clean the areas around the drawing

and even without cleaning it looks more natural

anyway it's just an opinion about the idea , but your drawing tutorials are great and very useful , and scarlett johansson looks very hot :P
DrownedFeather Featured By Owner Feb 15, 2010
So you're actually saying that Nicolien and all other artists should take their pencil and start to draw on their computer-monitors?

I'm just saying.
SpecialFlavour Featured By Owner Feb 15, 2010  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
no , i'm saying that they should share the pictures as they scanned it , not edited .. and that's just a personal opinion i'm not ordering someone to do this :)
