Serenity that I never knew Soundness of mind helped me to find courage to change all the things that I can

The Glass Prison / Repentance - Mike Portnoy
------------------------
EDIT Yesterday Mike got to see my drawing. He wrote me a beautiful comment at his forum, and now even uses a part of my drawing as his picture at Twitter which he joined today. I can't wish for a better compliment than that!
Philosopher, Mad Genius and devoted Musician. This is for you, Mike.
I wish I were able to finish this sooner, but whenever I wanted to continue, something else came in the way.
My plan was to get this done before Dream Theater would visit the Netherlands back in October 2009. It was meant as a gift for their drummer Mike Portnoy, since he is my main inspiration.
So a few months before their visit I asked fellow DT fans for their help, to let me gather a whole bunch of photos of Mike so I could make my own composition. I got in touch with Darko, who makes some of the official photos of the band. She supported and allowed me to use a few of her photos too, which are both shown on the right.
My health didn't allow me to go to their show, so my plan to give this particular drawing to Mike himself vanished and the drive to continue with this drawing decreased. I was quite demotivated.
I was fairly surprised to discover that, after a while, I got messages and mails from people I know and never heard of, asking me questions about this drawing, when I was going to finish it and show it to them. So I thought this would make great final project for 2009. Last few days I worked about 20 to 30 hours just to get it done in time.

The drumset was killing me. Each and every cymbal and drum took me about an hour. Even the little ones!
The image on the left was taken from the Aardschok magazine, which had a great article and interview with Mike. I loved to use an unusual colour for the goatee, which was also shown on the original photo.
