We hear and see things like this all the time and people with the middle to high range art skills know these comments are just not true. As author Geoff Colvin says in his book by the same title, "Talent is overrated," and really it is. There is no such thing as one person being born super talented and another having none at all or other such myths in art like that. The only difference between you the beginner artist and that artist way up at the top is hard work, smart work and time.
One major study (listed in 'Talent Is Overrated') showed that there was no such thing as the ‘talented’ elite who hardly work and just come out on top. It was found that there was no such thing as the person who just worked super hard consistently

FAQWhat pencils and supplies do you most often use? (Including coloured pencils )
For graphite drawings I use a fairly basic set of tools and I do have preferred brands. I mainly use Tombow Mono 100 pencils, Tombow Mono Zero Erasers, Blu-Tack (instead of a kneaded eraser), Tortillions, colour shaper and Tissue if I'm blending. I mainly use a smooth plate finish paper for graphite drawings, my preferred brand is Mellotex, but I also use Winsor and Newton Extra Smooth Bristol board. A rant on 'professional' elitismI haven't submitted a journal entry to dA in almost a year. I had art block, and I've been very ill. For like, six months at a time. But I seem to be drawing now. So here I am. Submitting this as a journal instead of news article because I don't particularly want a bazillion people flaming me. I'd like to bitch about elitism. So here goes.

Yes. And I should know because I work out of love for my craft, not for money. One is not innately better than the other! I can't count how many times I've seen some bonehead say someone is creating art 'wrong', and justify it with "I should know. I'm a professional." Really? REALLY? Do you know what the word means? Real life, historical life, has given us a pretty good indication of what frightens us as a collective. We have expounded on the elements of horror from wars, psychological experimentation and illness, serial killers, superstitions and folklore, etc.
Before there was a way to express horrific events in still frame, we had literature, and word of mouth. Eventually, literature was adapted to movies, and with movies came photography. Without all of those elements, we would never have a horror genre. Without a built in want to be scared, or shocked, it never would have grown to the proportions it has over the last 150 years!

Tell us about yourself and you only been here for a whole year now, what is your biggest (and proudest) accomplishment? Like a time when you felt like you were right on top of the world
I’ve been drawing since I was little. I kept it as a hobby and draw stuff I like from time to time. Since I love Dragonball, basketball, I started drawing a lot sketches related to these subjects with traditional medium and kept it up for years. At first I just look at other artist's work to get inspired, now I really like the deviantART community and appreciate what I can learn from the community.
Well, I never felt like on top of the world^^, but I guess the biggest accomplishment for me is when others told me that I inspire and motivate them to become better.

The other way to start a project is to be approached by a writer, they will often have ideas for the look of certain things and will more than likely have descriptions of scenes and characters as part of the script or screenplay.

I am writing this article to help those who don’t know understand the huge process in making animations, and such pipelines also run the same vein for films, tv, video games and any other similar media.
There are three main stages of the Pipeline - Pre-production, Production and Post-Production. After that it's in your hands, the audience, and the culmination of potentially years or decades of work can be shown in minutes.
The first step is pre-production. This is where everything happens literally before production (as the name cleverly suggests!) and involves a lot of reworking, experimentation, writing, rewriting, recording and lots of drawing.

Taking photographs is basically capturing a 3-dimensional space in two dimensions. The main principle governing this transformation is the principle of perspective, which represents the effect of a subject's space and depth in a 2-dimensional plane. The perspective effect in a photo is determined by the position it is taken from and the direction the camera is pointing. In other words, you can only change the perspective within an image by changing your standpoint.

I’m sure that you’re going to find a variety of answers, but that they’ll come back to the same things: because they love it, it helps them express themselves. Art is awesome, because it does allow us to do these things. It’s certainly a part of the reason why I do art. Other reasons? Because I like pretty things, and want to create them. Because I get so excited every time I have a photoshoot or every time I pull up those images onto my computer. Because that moment when you go to pick up your film after waiting for 24+ hours to see how they turned out is just so, so sweet. Because no matter how good I become at it, I can always get better. I’ll never stop learning. The final reason? Because I have to. It’s an urge in me that I just cannot quell.
Something makes me sad, though. What makes me sad is when I see a person, a fellow artist, quit.

The main thing you need to learn is to study life and movement at all times and when you watch life, you should draw life.
Carrying a sketchbook with you at all times is the only way to truly put yourself on the spot and this helps you improve in ways that you wouldn't realise.
Similar to life drawing, we call this gesture drawing.
Gesture drawing is the sister of life drawing - however instead of rendering a naked lady in stunning perfection with a stick of charcoal, gesture drawing is about capturing the life of your subject. Think of your eyes as a lens, your pen as a shutter and the paper as a printed image, you're capturing a moment in time, just like a photo.

This was an awesome read; always interesting to hear about you and your experiences. Love your story about trips to the music shop too.

I know some of my friends have experienced that; a guitarist friend of mine in particular. She's tall but very slim and when she's looking for a new guitar she usually gets ushered towards really basic gear. Always love seeing guys' faces when she actually plays and goes straight for a metal rift. ^_^

OYAY. So good to finally read this! I had to wait until I could use the computer, since it won't show up on my iPod, for some reason.

"When I sit behind a drum kit of a music store, within the next 10

omg, you do? I always rest my wrist against a folded tissue (placed on the drawing, of course) because I find it keeps my hand steady. I use caffeinated drinks to give myself the energy to draw for hours, but a side-effect is shaky hands.

I'm very glad to know that you work on several projects at once. I currently am getting a little bored over the incredible amount of time I am spending on my current drawing.

Also thank you for posting this! I wasn't able to make the interview because I'm one of the lucky west-coasters who the interview was at midnight. (and I hardly ever make it past 11:00)
