My 2nd portrait of Gerard Butler is done!

This is a free commission for:
Linda, organizer of CUT! Film Festival.
They support children's charities! Check out the link if you want to know more about it or if you wish to help them in some way. :)

Title refers to the Phantom of the Opera, which became one of my favourite movies ever, thanks to Kanisa (*akaLilith).
Everytime I see the Phantom (Gerry) crying and singing out loud passionate lyrics, I feel so sad for him. Christine's so beautiful too. Aww...

This became one of my favourite drawings so far. With a lot of fun and care (while listening to Metallica, yeah!) I put down as much detail and personality as I could.
However, if Gerard ever wants to have the original drawing, then well... He knows where to find me! (over here!!! lol)

-------------------------------------------

:star: .: About the drawing :. :star:

Phew :phew: what to say! Never did I ever pay SO much attention to drawing the smallest details, especially the beard. Every strand of hair was made with care.

...

The shading was really hard to do as well. Since the original image is a photo taken at a festival, the lighting came from different angles. If you don't portray it carefully, it may look really strange. So I decided to change the lighting a little until I was happy with the result!!!

...

As for the leather Jacket... it was complicated to draw a very dark area and still add that structure which makes leather look like leather. For the strap on the shoulder I used a dirty tortillion, so no pencillines, which is the reason why it still shows the reflection of light so well. I think it's my favourite part of the drawing. :D

-------------------------------------------

:star: .: Stuff I used :. :star:
  • 2H, H, HB, B, 2B & 3B 0.5mm mechanical pencils

  • 3B & 6B regular pencils for the jacket

  • tortillion for coloring & blending

  • tissue for blending

  • kneaded eraser for highlights & shading

  • Hahnemühle Nostalgie A4 size sketchbook paper

  • Time spent: approx 30 hours

For work in progress you can check this link:

And if you ever dare to use this drawing without permission, I'm gonna kick your ass :w00t:
